A relentless floor-raising star with some questions offensively and defensively EXECUTIVE_SUMMARY: Cam Boozer has a unique skill set that combines strength, skill, and basketball IQ. he excels as not only a low-post scorer, but also as a facilitator with his NBA-ready processing. He brings and welcomes physicality with great rebounding strength and awareness. OFFENSIVE_EVALUATION: What stands out the most is his ability to drive to the rim. In the season, he averaged 15.6 attempts per 100 possessions on 64.5%. Note that 5.7 of Rim Makes were unassisted (99th percentile), which is a good indicator that it will translate to the NBA. He is really good at using his frame and balance to absorb contact and finishing through defenders while frequently drawing fouls (his Free Throw Rate is at 89th percentile). And even when missing those shots, he is really good at following his own miss. This makes him a constant pressure point on opposing defenses. He also stands out as a really good passer. They love to put him as a QB at the top of the key where he is able to make great reads. Boozer is a player that will not make the same mistake twice, he will be able to adjust in real-time. In addition, he is very effective at driving and kicking to the open shooter (46% of his assists are for a 3PT shot). On the post, he can recognize cutters and make the right read. His shot profile is a dream for those in love with analytics as he is in the 99th percentile on Morey Rate. However, for me there is a lack of scoring versatility; he barely takes mid-range shots (2.4 attempts per 100 possessions) and sometimes he does have a tunnel vision when driving and so will try to force his way to the rim and might miss open shooters. His game is not the prettiest which sucks for me, given that I love and always prefer players that play the game in a beautiful way. DEFENSIVE_EVALUATION: A very good defender. There are the obvious concerns with his lack of vertical burst which can hinder his rim protection. He does struggle with guards on the perimeter. He is a smart defender and a really good helper. He is great at finishing the opposing team's possession with his defensive rebounds. In the NBA level, I do wonder how he would look in a switch-heavy scheme. But overall, I do believe he can be really good within a scheme. PROJECTION: I believe he is the "safest" pick in this draft. An elite second option on a championship team. Multiple All-NBA type of player.
