Darryn Peterson is a legit three level scoring guard with the size and shot making to threaten defenses from anywhere on the court. He also has enough passing feel to punish defenses for doubling him. The big questions are his durability, finishing through contact, and defensive discipline. STRENGTHS: Strengths - Advanced 3 level scorer who can get clean looks from deep, get to his pull up inside the arc, and finish with touch when he gets downhill. - He's a sniper as a 3 point shooter (38% on nearly 7 attempts per game). He can make them in transition, off the dribble, off the catch, or even fading away. - Comfortable attacking the rim with either hand. He uses his frame, long strides, touch, and body control really well. - He's got great size and length for the position. He takes big strides, covers ground quickly and can change speeds smoothly. He rarely gets forced to speed up his process by defenders as well. - Really smart off ball mover, he's always active and getting himself open for movement threes and cuts to the rim. - He can find open shooters, hit teammates in transition, and make pretty quick reads when he gets doubled. - Generates a good amount of FT's and makes nearly 83% of them. - Great court vision on fastbreaks, routinely hits his teammates for lobs before defenses can get set. - Active hands and good defensive awareness lead to him getting a good amount of steals and getting the ball up the court in transition. - Good at getting putbacks off his own misses, or getting fouled on putbacks at the very least. - Has some insane highlight dunks on tape. - His ability to work off ball gives him more versatility when it comes to potential landing spots and how he can play alongside another scorer or playmaking guard. WEAKNESSES: Weaknesses - Injury and durability concerns are the biggest thing with him, and we'll surely get more clarity as the draft gets closer. Personally I'm not worried, but it has to be mentioned. - Can really struggle finishing through strong chest contact, especially when bigger defenders meet him early. - Gambles a decent bit on defense trying to get steals, so he can give up ground if it doesn't pay off. - Wins more with speed and angles than powering through defenders at the rim. - He can leave his feet too early on defense and put himself out of position often. - Gets forced into bad mismatches pretty often because he struggles to stick with his man through screens. - Struggles to stay attached to his man without fouling. To counteract this he gives extra cushion and can allow shiftier players to get around him. - Can be overly aggressive closing out on three point shooters. - He's can pass, but he's a scoring guard first and foremost and won't be a true distributor initially.
