DEFENSIVE_EVALUATION: Long, rangy, forward. Played a versatile role on a team with a lot of size. Athletic enough to be able to run around and cause havoc on the perimeter getting into passing lanes, containing guards on switches, blocking shots at the rim at times, blowing up actions when in disadvantageous situations. Has a real motor to pair with his athleticism and length, in time with reps and as he matures - Morez can be a true difference maker on the defensive end. - 92nd %tile DEF PPP (-3.9) - 87th %tile DEF 2P (-1.3) - 87th %tile DBPM+ (+2.3) Now, his size + wingspan is impressive, but he does not have a true big's height and that does limit his viability as a shot blocker. He can defend some post playing bigs or bigs that like to play outside of the paint with his tools now but ultimately if at the rim his size does play a factor in block ineffectiveness - 50th %tile BLK% (4.8%). This factor in my view shifts Johnson a rung down on positional value, not confident in ability to play the role of small ball five with that weakness. But that doesn't mean I don't like him being a jammer on the defense guarding wings, forwards, and in a pinch guards. Does still have some young fella defense in him - vulnerable to pump fakes, gets into bad positions some times that lead to being vulnerable to pump fakes and fouls. OFFENSIVE_EVALUATION: Also a bit versatile on the offensive end of the floor, given that this is an off the ball player. Made some strides in terms of three-point shooting. From shooting none as a freshman to shooting 35 threes and converting 34.3% (also shot 78.2% FT%) is a step (albeit a smaller one) in the right direction if we are scaling down to a 3-4. Outside of that, he mostly provided value inside of the arc playing moreso as a power forward scoring off of passes - not creating for himself a ton. Yet useful as a rebounder, crashing the glass and converting - 12.8% OREB% (87th %tile). Playing as a roller/cutter, posting up mismatches and converting around the rim. Is also effective in transition + with his motor is a threat to attack the glass in these situations for cleanup. - 72.9% RIM% (76th %tile) - +11.2% rTS% (96th %tile) - 70.4% 2P_TS% (96th %tile) I do believe that Johnson can be valuable as a massive 3/4 who provides value on the interior scoring on mismatches, crashing the orebs and scoring there, being a threat in transition, and as a player who's motor above all gives him opportunities for success offensively. Hopefully if given time and if the development is ideal he can add in a 3PT shot at a respectable rate with a higher volume and if we were to dig a bit deeper add in a few basic moves with the ball to attack closeouts.
