Feel, Physicality, & Production. When you peak behind the curtain, the Eye Test and Sheets say the same thing. EXECUTIVE_SUMMARY: Cameron Boozer is truly a revelation. Production personified with a trophy cabinet to back up the historical statistical output he’s had. Much has been made about the aesthetics of his game. We’re all suckers for highlights, but the true value of the game will always be in winning and losing possessions. Cameron Boozer has found a way to win possessions at every single level. He’s far from a perfect prospect. I have my own questions about how his defense holds up against certain matchups, and below I’ve got some more notes about what I’ve noticed in his offensive process. Regardless of the questions I have, Cameron Boozer has shown what he’ll do at a consistent level in the NBA. Make the right play and Produce. For that he’s my #1. OFFENSIVE_EVALUATION: - Physical Driver, often leads with initial shoulder bump to knock defenders off balance - Excellent recognition of early help, often sees defensive rotations early and makes the right read (SUBSCRIBE TO DA POD) more times than not - Adept at early sealing and generating easy post buckets in semi-transition - Great drop-step when going left shoulder, post moves operating off right shoulder need some refinement - Most used counter is the spin back going right off the bump, can be predicated but often times doesn’t matter because of the separation off initial bump - Footwork needs refinement, hops into his negative step (should be called a travel) - Ok burst off rip and go’s, uses his strength to force defenders on his hip to utilize his bump again - Noticeably less comfortable driving hard right with defenders on his hip, needs to add counters off the right or gain comfort finishing off multiple hard dribbles going right - Lack of explosion/vertical burst shows when unable to gather momentum on drives, requires angles to attack - Leans with his crossover at times, physical defenders could meet him up him but he should have a physical advantage against most. - Intrigued to see him as a PnR passer more, sets with Ngongba showed flashes. Handle in the pocket looks smooth, can tell he’s repped these before. - Want to see how he attacks PU3s in the NBA, or if he does at all. Trust his touch as a shooter, do think his load up can be a bit slow at times but not a difficult thing to fix by any means. DEFENSIVE_EVALUATION: - Noticeably less comfortable playing at the 5 defensively. Lack of lateral burst shows up at times when hedging in PnR. - Smart player with active hands, often finds himself in the right spot defensively. - Mostly a gap/nail defender, can play with a drop 5. Do wonder how he fits in a switch heavy defense at the 4. - Do question his rim protection chops at the next level. Could present some team construction challenges looking for RimPro from wings.
