Simply one of the most effective self creators in this class, undeniably unstoppable at pressurising the rim at high volume Okorie cotinues to not receive the respect he deserves as a . PRO: The biggest strength of Okorie's game is his self creation talent especially focusing on his rim pressure. 13.1 rim attempts per 100 ranking in the 99th percentile, 12.3 free throw attempts per 100 ranking in the 94th percentile. Okorie is force at getting downhill wether that’s utilising screens or creating in isolation he is effective. Okorie is so effective of a self creator on offence because the has super functional athleticism and it’s translated into Okorie getting through and around defenders at impressive rates. He’s fast enough to go around you, flexible enough to go through double teams and ductile to get his finish off. These skills are super translatable in the NBA and he projects to be one of the strongest rim creating guards in the NBA especially for his height. It’s also going to be key for his early years allowing him to be impactful. His offensive production is elite with 100th percentile OBPM+, 85th percentile ORAPM, 58.9% TS% in the 77th percentile on 30.1% USG% in the 90th percentile. Okories advanced offensive statistics show one of the most elite college offensive producers with one of the larger roles in the nation. At some level being this productive in this role and figuring things out at a young age is an elite indicator of further offensive production in the NBA and future responsibility. While I think there are valid reasons to doubt Okorie’s pedigree as a point guard he has strong translatable skills similar to the best combo guards in the NBA like a Tyrese Maxey, like a Donovan Mitchell that make them elite scorers. A large pro of Okorie's game is the low turnover numbers, his adjusted turnover percentage is at 6.9% ranking in the 95th percentile for his high offensive load Okorie doesn't turn the ball over showing his ball handling skills and decision making avoiding the wrong pass. Okorie's measurements show potential for plus defensive impact. Okorie was a winner at the combine due to his +6.5 inch wingspan and good height measurement compared to expected. As someone who is best described as a flawed slightly below average defender Okorie has great potential on this end due to this measurement. While he is still relatively small he stands at a good 6'2.5 in shoes and left with slightly above average stock production and DRAPM stats. Okorie has all the tools as a defender shown by his active college hands and long arms, good strength for his size. The issue is brushing up everything in-between for consistent defensive production. CON: Weak points in Okorie's game starts with weak assist numbers. For someone typically labeled as a point guard with point guard size Okorie has disappointing playmaking numbers. 23.9% AST% is slightly below average and his AST/USG of 0.8 is a very weak number. For Okories importance within Stanfords offence in a guard role you expect more assists than 3.6 a game for someone in Okorie's position. While Okorie didn't make many bad passes he equally didn't make many great passes. A positive on this end would be that Stanfords team around Okorie was weak so Okorie didn't have as much to allow him too be a better playmaker while I feel like this argument can be dismissive of Okorie's issues. In the end of the day someone who demands a USG% in the area of 30 at any level needs to move the ball to win games, we see it in the playoffs with similar styles of offence like Donovan Mitchell one of the biggest downfalls of his game. I think Okorie is a very capable Crestor and his ability to score on and off ball is going to be forgiving for his weaknesses as a playmaker but the end gal would be to achieve a Tyrese Maxey type of playmaking talent where he can be a positive playmaker in a combo role rather than pushing to be a pure point guard. One of the issues within Okorie's low rim% number of 56.2 in the 29th percentile is the fact he doesn't decelerate when he's at the rim well enough. It causes him to be rushed in his attempts leading to the weaker efficiency. In the end of the day it's better for Okorie to be attempting more at the rim and be at a weaker efficiency than be a low attempt rim attempter and be efficient. The skill of getting tot he rim at this size as well as Okorie is special and harder to develop than teaching him to be an efficient scorer at the rim. Okorie already has the athletic capabilities and bend to be efficient at the rim. Being overly concerned about efficiency at a young age is dismissive of how talented Okorie truly is. NARRATIVE:IGNORANCE: Issue: Okorie got remarkably less PR and focus from media throughout the year compared to other guards and still gets mostly underrated by the public. Okorie hasn't got the same treatment as other young guards in this class. We had a very good year for guards, lots of top talent it gets very hard to rank between them and I think Okorie has been left out of conversation more than he should be. He's been no less productive playing against top competition, great games against some of the best in this class like vs UNC and Caleb Wilson Okorie had an awesome game with 36 points 9 assists and leading a poor team to a win against top talent. I think Okorie is going to end up in the 20s range in the draft and I think that would be seriously underrating his talent and that would be a shame if Okorie's lack of PR to the level of others in similar positions to him means he doesn't get the time of day or recognition NBA teams deserve to give him in the draft. Very much hoping he ends up on my Hawks. PROJECTION: Tyrese Maxey would be a high end outcome for Okorie, he has the self creative skills, athletic talent and scoring potential to fill this role offensively with similar Combo guard like playmaking upside rather than being a true point guard as such. Weak outcome would be a likely more efficient Bones Hyland as his college production is strong enough to suggest he will provide strong baseline scoring impact even if there's a lack of improvement as a playmaker or defender. Finding a role as a career backup would be simple for Okorie. An average outcome is harder to pin down but I project Okorie to be a starter level guard who can be one of the better starting guards within a conference and push for all star teams, not someone who regularly makes all star teams and maybe never makes it but someone who has a good shot at it because I believe he can be a main contributor to bringing a team to a top conference placement which would put him in an ideal position to make one of those teams.
