OFFENSIVE_EVALUATION: Provides value on the wing with his quickness, handle, physicality, bounce, and ability to get to the rim and finish at a modest rate - 64.3% RIM FG%, 99th %tile UA RIM Makes (5.5), and a 88th %tile FTR (51.6%). Handle is genuinely at a pretty high level for a wing, can probe and get into spots inside of the arc to attack, a PROBLEM in transition with the athletic traits and ball skills. A strong 2P TS% as well - 67.1%. A real threat when getting downhill to the basket. Can struggle to finish over length + physicality, can force some looks at the rim when they're not there. Does not look to be comfortable taking mid-range pull-up jumpers. When driving and elevating, the shots moreso resembled a push shot more than a standard jumper. Partly because the shots were like short mid-range attempts because he couldn't get to the rim, but the form on his jumper is not textbook. He shoots the ball like a shot put, holds the ball on side of head and releases. This brings me to the three point shooting which is his ultimate swing skill. This season he shot 34.8%, which is a steady improvement coming from 25% and 15% in his prior two seasons. While the percentages and attempts have increased, at the NBA level I am still a bit unsure where his shooting will land. The shot mechanics make his release slow, he does shoot the ball quicker in pull-up attempts but like catch and shoots, this is where it is seen clearly. In the NBA the shot is going to have to speed up a little bit to get clean looks off and that can make a difference between an average and below average shooter. As a playmaker, showed some flashes but overall still has a lot of polishing to do - 21.3 AST%, 3.3 RIM AST, 2.8 TOPG, 12.7% CTOV%. Swain can have success at the NBA level as a secondary/tertiary creator with his combination of athleticism and skill + proficiency at the rim. Needs still to iron his shooting out to ultimately be able to do so. DEFENSIVE_EVALUATION: Solid on ball defender, that has the ability to take it up a notch with the way he can move and cover ground. Seemingly this season with a higher creation burden, the defensive intensity dropped off. When engaged defensively, Swain can be disruptive, forcing turnovers in help with his quickness and active hands swiping at the ball, moving his feet and contesting well on the ball, toss in there that he can rebound decently as well, that's a pretty positive defender. He will need to return to a semblance of what he was as a freshman and sophomore.
