so why do people love philon but hate acuff lol PHYSICALS: Official Measurements 6'2.5" Barefoot 176.2 lbs. 6'6.25" Wingspan 8'3.5" Standing Reach STRENGTHS: Games Watched Alabama v. Arkansas (2025-26) Alabama v. Gonzaga (2025-26) Alabama v. Florida (2024-25) Alabama v. Kentucky (2024-25) Alabama v. Tennessee (2024-25) Alabama v. Kentucky (2024-25) Alabama v. Oklahoma (2024-25) Strengths - Philon's handle is elite and he's able to change pace on the way to the rim really well and keep defenders in jail. - At his best in the P&R. He's able to make some good tight window bounce passes in the paint but also has enough craft around the rim and in the midrange to punish defenses. - He's got a deep bag of moves to finish at the rim but has a particularly nice floater. Philon shot 57% on all his two point shots, but 63% on shots at the rim specifically. - Philon has legit three level scoring upside. He can get to the rim, score in the midrange, and hit jumpers from three. - Despite physical limitations he carried a massive portion of Alabama's offensive workload with a 29.9% usage rate. More impressively he was very efficient despite the volume of shots he was putting up, scoring 22 PPG on 62.6% TS, 57% 2P, and 39.9% 3P%. - On 6 3PA per game Philon shot nearly 40% with 203 of his shots on the season being from behind the arc. - He shot 41% on catch and shoot threes and has shown enough off ball shooting growth to fit next to another scorer. - Philon is a solid passer, making easy reads and not turning over the ball too often. Philon averaged 5 APG on the season, a 31.9 AST% and 2.0 AST/TO rate. - He's a solid on ball defender all things considered, and he gives effort on defense at the very least. WEAKNESSES: Weaknesses - Horrible screen navigator. If you screen him he's not getting back into the play or making any defensive impact. - Teams did, and will continue to hunt him on defense due to his lack of size and poor lateral movement. - More of a calculated passer than an instinctual one. He'll pre-determine where he wants to pass and often dump off the ball to centers that aren't open. - His defense took a massive decline from 2024-25 to 2025-26 due to increased minutes, showing that he's not some anomalous defender for his size as some might portray him. - He can play way too fast when driving and lose control of the ball or put too much power on him shots around the rim. - Despite only being 176 pounds, Philon is not as fast as you'd expect. It's rare to see him win with with pure speed to the rim. - He desperately needs to add weight and more strength. - A lot of his assists are very simple reads, not knocking him for doing the right thing but he isn't some elite playmaker. - He doesn't really create space on his three point shots consistently. - NBA defenders with decent length are going to have a much easier time blocking his layups than college defenders did. - He can have all the offense in the world, but if he continues to struggle as much as he did defensively NBA teams will struggle to keep him on the floor.
