the lean mean rebound machine PHYSICALS: Official Measurements 6'10.25" Barefoot 248 lbs. 7'2.25" Wingspan 9'0" Wingspan 35.5 Inch Vertical STRENGTHS: Strengths - Steinbach was the best rebounder in college basketball, averaging 11.8 (7.6 DREB, 4.2 OREB) RPG, a 14.3 OREB%, and 25.0 DREB%. He also averaged a 20 REB%, meaning 20/100 possessions he was grabbing a board. - His hands and positioning are the reason why he's such a great rebounder, even if he doesn't have the greatest vertical ability. - Steinbach is incredibly strong and more than willing to take on contact. - His length makes up for him being undersized for a center on the offensive end. - Steinbach has a very strong post up game, being able to make space for himself consistently. - While it may seem like Steinbach is more of a traditional center, he plays with an air of touch and finesse around the rim, and is pretty agile and light footed for his size. - The way he's able to chain together moves and navigate traffic as a slasher is really impressive. - Steinbach shot 68% at the rim this season on 236 attempts, shooting 96% on dunks, 56% on tip shots, and 65% on layups. - He was very active off the ball, shooting 67% on cuts with lots of them coming in transition. - Steinbach shot 46% on runners and 41% on hook shots in large part to his elite touch around the rim. - He draws fouls at a decent rate with 5.3 FTA per game, and makes 75% of them. - Steinbach was at his best as the roll man in the P&R. He was the roller on 103 possessions this season and shot 57%. While it wasn't on very high volume, he offers versatility as the ball handler in the P&R as well, shooting 11/13 on his 2 point looks. - His passing is above average I'd say. He makes quick decisions with the ball consistently and is pretty good at finding open shooters when he draws attention in the paint. - He shot 35% on all catch and shoot looks from three, 40% on guarded threes, and 27% on unguarded threes. Coupled with his 75% FT, there is a world where he can develop into a stretch big. WEAKNESSES: Weaknesses - Steinbach shot just 18/53 on threes this season, so it's very far from a guarantee that he can be an immediate floor stretcher his rookie season. - He has a lot of bad misses from three on tape and you can tell he's still ironing out his shooting form. - Steinbach doesn't offer the rim protection you'd like to see from a player of his size. He averaged just 1.2 BPG, and opponents shot 45% against him at the rim. - His inability to be a consistent rim protector will limit his minutes early in his career, he's not the type of center that's going to deter the better centers of the NBA. - Stopping opponents at the rim is one of the most important aspects of basketball, if he cannot improve in this area, which is very hard to do, he may be reserved to a rotation role. - His size leaves him in a middle ground between being a PF and small ball center at the NBA level, which not every team is looking for. - He averaged 2.0 TOPG, and a 0.8 AST/TO ratio. I hate knocking big men for passing, but it has to be mentioned. - His lateral movement is pretty slow, if you're projecting him as more of a PF he's going to need to be able to guard on the perimeter, so I'm a bit concerned here. - While he shot well on limited volume off the dribble, he's by no means versatile just yet in the P&R, he's going to be the roller 9/10 times.
