PETER SUDER

PETER SUDER

Suder showcased NBA level talent at the PIT: an aggressive downhill driver, Suder makes the right reads in the passing lanes and when to take his shots. Constantly put pressure on defenses in college and in PIT play.

Tall, high-IQ point/combo guard. Not elite athletically but excels in managing the game and minimizing mistakes.

TJ projected more on the defensive side, but Suder's active hands leads him to getting a decent amount of stocks. Slightly worse from the defensive side.

Monté Morris

I would say maybe the best comp is Morris, someone who is another high-IQ guard who can manage the game at a high level.

// EXECUTIVE_SUMMARY

- Leadership and IQ: Suder has excellent leadership skills, a high basketball IQ, and can be NBA ready by the time the draft rolls around. - A composed playmaker in pick-and-roll, Suder's ability to find passing pockets will serve him well in pre-draft competition. - At 6’3.75” with a 6’8” wingspan, Suder has NBA size. It will be interesting to see how he fairs against more athletic, NBA style guards, but a high motor will at least serve him well.

// OFFENSIVE_EVALUATION

I got to see Suder play at Miami for two seasons and there's a reason he won MAC POTY despite some "lower" numbers than other competitors. What really stands out statistically is his true shooting percentage. At 62.1% he sits in the 91% percentile. He had an incredibly efficient year this year shooting 54% from the field and 42.1% from 3 on 3 attempts a game (deep water threes mind you). A solid passer and can slot in on and off the ball effectively. Some might label him as a "jack of all trades master of none" since he does everything averagely compared to the rest of the NBA (however in college he was definitely above average). He's been rising up the draft board for certain teams with an impressive showing at PIT and an invite to the NBA combine.

// DEFENSIVE_EVALUATION

Suder's main weakness on defense is that he lacks lateral movement. He'd get beat by some of the quicker guards in the MAC and it helped that Steele surrounded him with other lanky defenders (Antwone Woolfolk, Eian Elmer, etc). That being said, Suder competes on every single rep. Miami went to overtime a few times during their 31-0 regular season, and despite shouldering most of the offensive load on a given night, Suder was always competing on the defensive side of the ball. He's certainly an EGW (Eat Glass and Wood) type of player. Always diving on loose balls, fighting for rebounds, he's got an incredible motor.

// PROJECTION

I like the idea of him being anywhere between Andrew Nembhard to TJ McConnell to Monte Morris. He'll have to have a really good showing at the combine for me to confidently say he'll get drafted (No. 76 on ESPN's Top 100 currently), but he can continue to prove his worth with his hustle. He's got a workout scheduled with the Mavericks (who had success with Ryan Nembhard this past season) so I'm not entirely sure about the landing spot but I would project him in a similar role to Cam Spencer's rookie year: splitting time between the G-League and the NBA. Again, most of this hinges on if he has a good combine, if he doesn't I would say he's probably a shoe in for the G-League. But a good sign nonetheless. He will be missed at Miami.
