HANNES STEINBACH

HANNES STEINBACH
He’s big. He’s fast. He scores a lot. He grabs a ton of rebounds. Board man gets paid.
Transition monster and rebound king who scores efficiently everywhere else, moves the ball well despite not being an offensive hub.
// EXECUTIVE_SUMMARY
Hannes Steinbach is an elite transition player and one of the best rebounders in the last ten years of college basketball. As NBA teams continue to put heavy emphasis on winning the possession game and maximizing their transition opportunities, Hannes perfectly fits these criteria and will dominate at the next level due to his combination of size, athleticism, skill, and feel; he also has high upside due to realistic improvement areas such as three-point shooting and ball handling. Teams with stretch centers and solid defensive wing depth (e.g. Washington, Oklahoma City, San Antonio) will be able to maximize Hannes’ skill set through good spacing and a strong defensive foundation that covers for his physical limitations as a perimeter defender. While his success is somewhat conditional based on team context, Hannes has the potential to become a star forward and is well worth a top ten pick in the upcoming draft, if not top five.
// OFFENSIVE_EVALUATION
One of the best transition players in the draft (1.443 PPP on 61 possessions) with incredible timing for offensive boards and put-backs (1.325 PPP, 83 poss). Well-rounded halfcourt scorer who can post-up or play off-ball as the roll man or cutter. Incredible agility and footwork. Functional ball mover although not a passing savant.
Percentiles are positional, measured against NBA players' last season in college.
// DEFENSIVE_EVALUATION
Not a traditional rim protector, which you would love at his size, but can function as a weak side rim protecting forward. Good anticipation and understands his role when guarding on the perimeter, uses his large body and arms to deny space and alter shots, but doesn't have incredible lateral mobility or explosive leaping from a standstill. Won't kill you if he's left on an island but needs to learn to get around screens better.
// PROJECTION
Will be every coach's favorite guy from day one due to his strong work ethic and fundamental skills. Should earn playing time very quickly. His most vital area of improvement will be learning to score over NBA length. Should fit well into a 5-out offense centered around scoring quickly and reducing opponent possessions. Ideal partner for a stretch center who protects the rim well but struggles to control the glass due to contesting a high number of shots.
