DAILYN SWAIN

DAILYN SWAIN
Daily Swain's elite driving and creative talent + defensive talent
// PRO
Daily Swain is an elite driving wing he has a great crossover. For the last two years swain has ranked in the 93rd and 92nd percentile rim attempts. Swain has a unique blend of bend athleticism and bend with a smooth handle, a patented crossover thats super effective at getting swain to advantageous situations. Swain projects to be a strong NBA slashing wing offensively with creative upside. His free throw rate also backs this up, Swains elite rim running has allowed him to have a FTR of 51.6% in the 88th percentile, free throws are important for players demanding shot attempts and creative possessions as it creates consistent offence so this is a very translatable skill. Swains size, athleticism, bend, crossover, elite touch and free throw rate makes him the ideal creative slashing wing prospect. Swain has other ways of scoring too, perfectly capable operating in post situations and triple threat opportunities, he can go through you over you his touch is very good so its very hard to stop him. His efficiency and impact supports his diet he sits at a 63.3% TS% which ranks in the 91st percentile, 6.6 OBPM in the 86th percentile. Swain also has plus playmaking with his size to justify giving him more creative possessions, his 21.3% AST% ranks in the 93rd percentile and 1.3 AST/TO in the 71st percentile Swain is efficient and is a good decision maker for his 69th percentile USG% of 25.5%. Projecting Swain to be a ball handling wing at the next level is a simple case. On the other end of the court Swain has had plenty to be optimistic about, he has a strong STL% of 2.8% in the 87th percentile and defensive impact stats with DBPM+ ranking in the 74th percentile. Swain has defensive history, being super impactful in all of his previous years in college, last 2 years he was an elite block producer although that dipped. Swain has been productive and is generally considered a two way talent with stats to back it up. Swain is a plus rebounder positionally, its not an extreme strength but he's a good defensive rebounder with a 20.7% DRB% in the 79th percentile.
// CON
The major standout issue with Swain has been the inconsistent jumper. Swain found improvements in this area this year. After 2 years of being one of the weakest wing shooters in college Swain took a jump to 34.8% from three at about average. This is a big jump for Swain and is awesome for opening up his game but it's far from perfect. The volume is still quite low and the form is weak. Weirdly, Swain is more efficient as a shooter when he's taking them off the dribble and a weaker one off the catch so you'd feel pretty comfortable sagging off him in the NBA from NBA distance especially with how dangerous of a driver he is. The positive thing is that hasn't affected his production during college. Swain saw a big hit to his BLK% this year only averaging 0.3 a game at 1% BLK% in the 9th percentile a pretty horrible stat for someone who's typically a good defensive playmaker. I think it shows that, while I thoroughly believe Swain is a positive defender, he's far from perfect with his flaws especially instinctually to where he experiences drops like this for a whole season defensively. Some of this may be due to increased competition and maybe Swain never see's quite the same block production as his Swain years where at one point he was in the 97th percentile in BLK% but there's reason to believe this may return closer to before than it is now but something to be concerned over. Other areas of Swains game it's perfectly valid to be concerned over are areas like his offensive rebounding, his turnovers he has a pretty bad adjusted turnover percentage. Swain struggles with being totally consistent on both ends of the court displayed by this.
Percentiles are positional, measured against NBA players' last season in college.
