CAMERON BOOZER

CAMERON BOOZER
A generationally skilled offensive big with burst and vertical limitations.
// OFFENSIVE_EVALUATION
Cam Boozer can impact his team's offense in a multitude of ways. He has a unique blend of strength and footwork that allows him to create shot attempts in the paint at will, at 250 pounds, he will enter the league with the ability to attack mismatches. His playmaking ability is elite with an ast% of 25.6 and a:to ratio of 1.6. He is a quick decision-maker out of the short roll with the ability to attack as a scorer while also being a great screener. He is an instant fast break creator, which is aided by his ability to throw precise outlet passes, defensive rebounding skill and handle. To add on, he punishes help defenders on drives with his passing and out of the post ups with lobs and skip passes. On top of his interior abilities, he is viable as a perimeter creator with good ball-handling ability for his 6'10 250 pound size. He is unbothered by pressure on drives and post-ups, which is most likely because of his innate ability as a passer. He is also an elite shooter at 39% from behind the arc on 6.5 attempts and 79 ft%, his high school 3p% of 43% is elite as well. This shooting ability makes him lethal as a screener with the ability to both pop and roll at an elite level. Furthermore, he has elite offensive rebounding, which, when paired with another big man, can be overwhelming for opposing frontcourts which was showcased with Boozer and Ngongba at Duke. The main fear with Boozer is his athletic limitations. This will make finishing tougher against NBA-level defenders, even with his advanced footwork and touch. I do think these limitations are often exaggerated. Cam had 43 dunks over his freshman season, which would lead you to believe he isn't terrible as a vertical leaper, but nonetheless, it is still a genuine concern that may very well cause him trouble at the next level. The only other gripe I have on the offensive end is his stiffness and lack of burst as a ball-handler; there were many times in college that he had to rely on his strength to bolster his way past defenders, which again won't be as effective in the NBA. His role on offense will be extremely fluid with the ability to be a DHO option, screener, post threat, spot up, and both pick and roll screener and ball-handler. While having the skill, efficiency, and shot diet to be a generational offensive player.
// DEFENSIVE_EVALUATION
In comparison to his offensive abilities, Cam Boozer's defensive skills are underwhelming. His lack of speed hinders his ability to cover space both on close-outs and help-side paint defense. He is slow laterally, which causes him to get blown by against faster ball-handlers. His size at 6'9 and lack of vertical pop also make him undesirable as a rim protector. With all that being said, I still believe he will only be a slightly negative to neutral defender. He is a good defensive rebounder with a 22.1 defensive rebounding% while having quick hands to interrupt passing lanes. His strength also gives him the ability to wall off drives and fight against post-ups. His role on defense will be interesting, with his lack of size and athleticism limiting him both on the perimeter and the interior.
Percentiles are positional, measured against NBA players' last season in college.
