OFFENSIVE ENGINEScoring PG

DARIUS ACUFF JR.

All-time scorer who put on a historic offensive season, elite volume scoring with just as elite playmaking. On the defensive end, it shows taking Darius is a game of High-highs, and Low-lows. Hoping to see improvement as he enters the NBA.

Scoring - Scored a total of 845 points while proving he can create off P&R's, cuts, and just about everything else. 2 things that really impressed me and continue to push towards a bright future was his ability to connect on 3s while shooting 9.3 attempts per game, and his playmaking without turning over the ball much. At 44% from 3P range, he already is elite at something every NBA team needs, a perimeter threat. Now add Darius who uses his excellent playmaking ability to torture defenders into biting on shots or playing the lanes to stop an assist. Pick your poison with him, a bucket is coming either way. I have Jalen Brunson/Damian Lillard as his ceiling player comps. With more reps and games under his belt, I expect his scoring to reach a more elite level if he is placed on the right team/system. Playmaking - Wow. What's impressive is, it doesn't matter if he's hot scoring wise for the night, the assists will be there. He's tallied 20+ points in 3 out of his 5 10+ assist games. Carrying the offense and distributing at a high rate with a low turnover rate. His high volume driving to the rim adds pressure to the defence and allows him to open up passing lanes for his teammates. His 3PT shooting really makes it hard for defenders to be on point with switches and schemes to try and stop a jumper/passing lane. He has potential to average a 5+ assist game in his rookie year, he clearly understands the floor and how to create opportunities for his team to score.

// DEFENSIVE_EVALUATION

The defensive side is a hard watch, lazy and unable to defend key points due to lack of size and awareness. But, his weaknesses on these sides do have a great potential of improvement. They're things that can be fixed. Has a great frame and build that he can actually use on the defensive end but hasn't really got to. His lack of athleticism does hinder him in moments. Ballwatches and falls asleep when when guarding off ball. These are things that if he puts in the time and effort to use his IQ, which is top tier offensively, if he can use that IQ on the defensive end and care to improve, this is a guard that will be able to hold his own.

// PROJECTION

Someone I can't bet against, has that killer and calm vibe to his game like AI/Lillard. The upside of his offense is good enough for me to take on the problems he has defending. I have him going between #5-7 in this draft and I think any team that gets Darius needs to know, this is a star that needs to be pushed to improve all around. When you have scoring and playmaking on lock, you're a good player. But, can you defend and complete your game 2-ways? That's what will make him great.
