JOSHUA JEFFERSON

JOSHUA JEFFERSON
Combo forward, occasional point forward, can get to the rim and finish, glue guy, player who knows his role, good defensive impact, what more could you ask for?
24-25 Timberwolves Randle has shown to have a point forward bag that he doesn't go to a lot because he gets caught up being so iso-heavy; however, when he spreads the wealth, he does a damn good job at it. Only thing is I think Jefferson has more of a defensive upside than Randle, but lacks the offensive bag which Randle has. There is context here as Randle has mostly played first or second option ball. I'd like to think Jefferson is Randle if he took on more of a connective role player role and had slightly better defense.
// OVERALL
Joshua is a plug-and-play combo forward who excels in the role player department. Get to the rim and score like a traditional power forward, check. Draw gravity or use his play and playmake for others, check. Be a connective glue guy, who doesn't force the issue, check. Provide solid defense that makes the coach trust you when you're on the court, check.
Percentiles are positional, measured against NBA players' last season in college.
// OFFENSIVE_EVALUATION
Good playmaker, 5.2 assists to 2 turnovers, this is good, so when his shots aren't falling, he doesn't have to force the issue and could rely on his good playmaking. Good post up scorer, can use his strength to get to the rim, has a bit of finesse about his finishes, albeit nothing otherworldly for a power forward. He can take advantage of a mismatch to score or create opportunities for his teammates. An oddity I noticed was a stiffness in his playstyle that allows him to be more controlled, especially coming off a 3 point shooting opportunity (this is a very specific scenario but I would not be surprised if this sequence is done in the big leagues) Needs to have a more consistent 3-ball shooting game (preferably to make him a solid role player); however, he shoots better when guarded ( 44% when guarded, 36% when unguarded), and another promising aspect is that he isn't afraid to shoot the long 3. So there is realistic room for improvement in this aspect, but I think expectations here should be dampened, as he isn't wholly dependable on the 3 for his game.
// DEFENSIVE_EVALUATION
Good defensive impact on the boards, averaging 7.8 rebounds, further adding to his role player repertoire. He might not be the fastest but his positioning seems to make up for that, shown in his decent blocking ability, averaging 0.8 blocks a game Court vision seems to translate defensively as well, for when to profit off situations such as double teams and traps. Lacks a bit of mobility or agility (twitch even), making his perimeter defense against faster wings questionable. He would be solid at defending bigger wings and similarly sized 4's
// PROJECTION
Whilst age could be the first thing that would pop up for teams wherever he falls on the board, his potential as a very serviceable role player, especially one that plays good defence and contributes all across the statsheet should not go unnoticed. I project him to be a first-round 20's pick all the way to a 1-10 pick in the second round.
// BEST_FITTING_TEAMS
So many teams in the league would benefit from having a swiss army knife-ish forward like Joshua, as his game feels refined and polished enough to be plugged into a lineup where he's given a particular task that goes well with his strengths, as well as his general play. My order of the best-fitting teams in order would be; New York Knicks Denver Nuggets Los Angeles Lakers Boston Celtics Minnesota Timberwolves
