Awa Fam is one of the most polarizing players in recent WNBA memory. Born in Spain and currently playing for Valencia Basket in the Women's EuroLeague, Fam has potential to be the first player in 25 years to be the first overall selection and not participate in college basketball. Additionally, due to the different rules for international and domestic draft declaration, she is several years younger than most other prospects, at currently just 19 years of age.

Standing at 6'4", Fam possesses a rare combination of brute strength and nimble footwork that makes her a nightmare to defend in the paint. Unlike many young prospects who rely solely on height, Fam uses a sophisticated array of counters, ball fakes, and step throughs to navigate through traffic which has led to good efficiency numbers, shooting close to 60% from the 2 this season.

Fam has shown clear flashes of high level playmaking, using her defense shifting presence to create windows for her teammates. Her highlight reel includes crosscourt dimes and one touch dishes off the short roll that are rarely seen from players of her size. This ability to facilitate from the elbow or the post makes her incredibly harder to stop.

The Spaniard has the physical tools to guard multiple positions. As a big with a long wingspan, she makes shots tough for her opponents on the interior, but is also mobile enough to hold her ground if she gets switched onto a smaller player on the perimeter. However, for someone with her imposing size, you would like to see the block numbers a bit higher as she averaged 0.9 blocks per 36 min combined across her Spain + EuroLeague league sample. Despite the relatively low block rate, she is forcing turnovers with 1.6 steals per 36.

The shooting touch shows some promise, with Fam shooting 14-51 from 3 on the season and 77% from the line across 56 attempts on the year. The full career sample I could find for her free throws appears to be 67% over 270 FT.

These factors are regularized RAPM-style estimates of how the player moves her team's performance relative to league baseline when she's on the floor. ORAPM/DRAPM summarize overall offensive and defensive impact per 100 possessions; the sub-rows approximate impact on effective shooting, turnover margin, rebounding, and free-throw pressure, then unpack where shots come from (profile/deterrence) and how they are finished or contested (making/defense). The offensive components incorporate priors to stabilize estimates, while the defensive components are currently fit without priors.

At 5'11, Azzi Fudd is one of the best 3 point shooting prospects the WNBA has ever seen, especially as an off ball threat. This past college season, she converted on 44.7% from deep on almost 6.7 attempts a game, a number which by itself makes her worthy of a top selection.

Fudd excels on the defensive side of the ball with her value stemming from elite positioning and defensive playmaking instincts rather than raw lateral explosiveness or athleticism. She is an exceptionally disciplined defender who rarely bails out opponents, and is elite in the passing lanes which is evidenced by her 2.5 steals per game this past season.

Self creation will be Fudd's greatest swing skill at the next level. Despite her high 3 point volume, her diet consisted almost exclusively of catch and shoot looks or transition pull ups, with off the dribble looks being few and far between. However, she balances this with a tight handle and a lethal mid range pull up game that forces defenders to stay honest when closing out on the perimeter. While she is a crafty finisher on cuts and in the open floor, she rarely seeks out or goes through contact, resulting in an extremely low free throw rate that limits her scoring ceiling.
