AJ DYBANTSA

AJ DYBANTSA
AJ DYBANTSA: Incredible finisher and shot creator inside the arc with a sky high potential thanks to S-tier athleticism and physical tools. Biggest question is the growth of the 3pt shot (although he is improving quickly there as well) and the defensive engagement.
// EXECUTIVE_SUMMARY
AJ DYBANTSA SF, 6’9, 210 FLOOR: Low end all-Star CEILING: Scoring champ, MVP caliber player Comparisons: Bigger SGA, Stronger KD, Siakam GRADES: Finishing: A+ Midrange game: B+ 3PT shooting: C+ Shot creation: A+ Playmaking and IQ: B Perimeter defense: B- Inside defense: B Rebounding: B Athleticism: A+ Frame: A+ Player Archetype: 3 level scoring athletic slashing wing
// OFFENSIVE_EVALUATION
At 6’9 with a 7ft wingspan, AJ Dybantsa has a virtually unlimited ceiling. His lengthy frame combined with his athleticism, explosiveness and body control make him a truly special player. Offensively, Dybantsa’s main sell point is his freakish ability to get to the rim and finish in a never ending variety of ways. Taking advantage of a 42 inch vertical leap, a quick first step and a high degree of touch and technique, AJ can buy buckets any way he wants, being an aggressive driver and a foul magnet, while making great use of his strength. Far from being his only skill, AJ Dybantsa presents an advance midrange shot creation game, taking advantage of his driving gravity, length to create separation in his shots and, most importantly, a degree of body control and fluidity characteristic of a guard (reminds me of Shai in that department). While his 3PT shot isn’t as developed as it was thought to be, he is still a respectable outside shooter with promising mechanics and great shooting release point. Still, although the development of a high level 3 ball will ultimately raise or lower his overall ceiling as a player, his shooting floor is high enough for it not to be a major concern, and is not at a point where defenders are able to shag off him in fear of a drive. Overall, AJ’s scoring is extremely well rounded and efficient, shooting 59% in 2PT attempts and 38% from 3PT range (4 attempts per game, low volume), while getting to the line 8.5 times a game in 75% ft shooting. His playmaking is underrated, often making smart quick reads out of screens and double teams, frequently making the right play and hitting the open man while driving.
// DEFENSIVE_EVALUATION
Defensively, his screen navigation is still a work in progress, and he sometimes over relies on his length and athleticism to contest shots and follow his man. However, as mentioned, his defensive ceiling is really high thanks to his frame and explosiveness, which allow him to make some defensive plays. He seems to have good defensive instincts and positioning.
// PROJECTION
All things considered, Dybantsa projects to be a scoring monster and all around star that will probably cause the league some problems in the future. I think he is a MVP-caliber player one day and will win scoring titles, that's the talent we are talking about
Percentiles are positional, measured against NBA players' last season in college.
