If Swain continues to develop his already solid jump shot and elite ball-handling for his size, his ceiling is extremely high. He thrives attacking mismatches and isn’t afraid to take tough shots when in rhythm. At his best, he displays a killer instinct similar to elite scorers, making him a dangerous offensive presence.

MEDIAN
SLIGHTLY WORSE
Deni Avdija

A silky-smooth finisher for a player of his size, Swain handles the ball with the skill of a point guard while also attacking above the rim thanks to his height and athleticism. He’s an efficient free-throw shooter and can create opportunities for teammates, making him a threat both as a scorer and facilitator.

FLOOR
Kelly Oubre Jr.

A versatile wing who flashed premier potential early in his career but never fully put it all together to become an all-star caliber player. Even so, he remains a valuable role player capable of starting for many teams due to his two-way versatility.

Dailyn Swain showcased his scoring ability at a high level this year. His ability to blow by defenders while using his size and athleticism to finish through contact made him one of the more polished scoring prospects in the draft. “At 6'8”, Swain possesses a rare ability to handle the ball with speed and precision, something few players his size can do. His aggressive downhill mentality makes him a strong option for teams seeking a fearless scorer who understands how to leverage his strengths. While he isn’t an elite three-point shooter yet, Swain has shown significant improvement. After shooting just 15.4% from three as a freshman, he raised that number to a respectable 34.4% this season. Another reason scouts are high on Swain is the flashes he’s shown as a secondary playmaker. He averaged 3.6 assists this season while carrying a significant scoring load, showing he can facilitate when needed.

STRENGTHS_WEAKNESSES

// DEFENSIVE_EVALUATION

The biggest factor potentially holding Swain back from being a top-10 pick is his inconsistent defensive impact. Given his size and wingspan, there wasn’t always a lot to be encouraged by on that end of the floor. While he showed flashes sometimes, like jumping the passing lanes to get steals, he frequently found himself in foul trouble and didn’t provide the level of rim protection you might expect from a player with his physical tools. That said, he plays with a strong motor and consistently crashes the glass, averaging 7.5 rebounds this season. The effort and physical profile suggest there’s real defensive upside, but he’ll need to improve his consistency and decision-making on that end. In the right system and with continued development, he has the tools to become a much more impactful defender.

// PROJECTION

There’s significant upside with a player like Swain. The NBA values size on the wing, and he brings exactly that. His ability to create his own shot makes him an appealing option either as a scoring spark off the bench or as a starting wing for teams in need of additional shot creation. While the defense remains a work in progress, the physical tools and motor suggest it can improve with time. Swain will be 21 at the start of his rookie season, but his offensive polish already provides a strong foundation for him to become an impactful player early in his career. With his combination of size, scoring ability, and upside, Swain has legitimate lottery potential, It will ultimately depend on his continued development and the situation he lands in.
